About This Speaker
Gary Hernbroth is a dynamic speaker, trainer, and performance coach with over 30 years of leadership in sales, marketing, and management in the hospitality and meetings industry, plus 16 years as a designer and presenter of customized training programs in the hospitality, national and state association, and corporate sector. He is noted for his exciting, humorous, and “straight shooter” style keynotes, training programs, breakout sessions, facilitation of retreats and board meetings, and one-on-one coaching for thousands of people in various businesses and industries across the USA and Canada. His clients are as varied as Genentech, Disneyland Resort, Marriott, The PGA TOUR, the US Army, Pebble Beach Resorts, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Hernbroth spent 17 years in key sales, marketing, and management positions with Westin Hotels, Fairmont Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, and Park Lane Hotels International, including pre-opening a hotel and building its convention, sports, and group business from square-one. He has been interviewed on ESPN Radio, KCBS-San Francisco, and WXYT-Detroit on selling and customer service topics as they related to major events such as the Super Bowl and the "Earthquake" World Series in San Francisco in 1989. His sales training program was featured in SELLING POWER magazine for its creativity.
Gary Hernbroth started his own training firm in 1995, after years of noticing how many people wanted to -- and needed to -- refresh their skills, learn new techniques, and sharpen their "tools" in order to improve performance and remain competitive in demanding economic times. Through exhaustive research, he also sensed a gap in how often or efficiently this was done. Hernbroth founded his enterprise on the belief that adult learning is continual: that no matter what title we've achieved or how long we've been in a job, no one is truly ever "there" enough to stop learning. Today's changing business climate will not allow it.
Gary works one-on-one with his clients in preparing the scope and direction of the training and presentations. Many of his clients compliment him on his ability to apply the message to their specific audience, using timely information, trends, and buzzwords that are appropriate for that organization. This is no "canned" approach.
Gary Hernbroth’s re-booking rate is over 90% primarily because he gets people to take action – he engages his participants in interactive exercises and simulations as individuals and small teams in his training workshops, and when it is appropriate in a presentation to a larger audience. “I want the audience to “do something”, not just “hear something,” he says, “That way, they are much more likely to get the message and take their own action afterward.” And that includes take-aways, which have always been his strong point. The key behind much of Gary's success, say his clients, is his ability to simplify the complicated in an often humorous approach, or one that is based on “real life” so people can relate better and become inspired.
In his training workshops. participants take on real business and life dilemmas, prepare and make presentations, problem-solve in small groups, participate in critical introspective reviews, and develop remedies and self-action plans. Role-plays and video-taping are also used when appropriate. All of Gary Hernbroth's programs and presentations are fully customized.
Gary’s mission statement: “To help people develop tools and uncover talents that, with consistent use and support, will enable them to increase their effectiveness and add value to themselves and others.”
Hernbroth earned his bachelor's degree from The School of Hospitality Business at Michigan State University. He was recently presented with their "Distinguished 75th Anniversary Year Alumnus Award," and is a member of MSU's School of Hospitality Business Appointed Board of Directors. Gary returns to the campus each year to address various classes and mentor upcoming graduates in preparing them for the business world, as an Honorary Faculty Member.
Gary Hernbroth has been a two-term president for the Northern California Chapter of PCMA (Professional Convention Management Association), a five-year member of ASAE's Associate Member Advisory Committee (with three years on the ASAE Foundation Committee), a member of the CIC (Convention Industry Council) APEX Contracts Panel and Educational Committee, a member of the San Mateo County CVB and the Tri-Valley CVB (where he also serves as co-chair of its Sports Commission), a member of the American Society of Training & Development's Program Committee, and a member of National Speakers Association.
Gary’s 5 favorite Keys for Success are:
1. Listen more than talk
2. You begin to die the moment you stop learning
3. You're never too old to play and think like a child
4. Do what you love, do it well, and the money will follow
5. Our personal legacy is a work in progress all life long
What Clients Are Saying
“Gary, I can say with certainty that we at Capitol have never booked a better speaker. You approached the subject with knowledge and a strong sense of how to effectively tell a story and generate meaningful thought. The structure of your presentation kept the audience actively interested, not talking ‘at’ but rather ‘with’ participants in a manner that allowed them to think about the subject from many different viewpoints…”
(Capitol Exhibit Services, Inc. for the US Army Program Executive Office-Enterprise Information Services)
“I had the pleasure of attending your presentation as the President of AWT (Association of Water Technologies, Inc.), and I felt your presentation really was a key to helping not only my own company’s sales force but also many other individual owners’ companies who attended. I heard nothing but rave reviews.. I will highly recommend you for the future!”
(Association of Water Technologies, Inc. Annual Convention)
“It is not often that our members give such rave reviews of speakers, but in your case the feedback was so positive that I felt that I had to write and let you know of their feelings. Your seminar was so well attended that we had to add additional seating for those that showed up late. Gary, your seminar was on target and relevant to our industry. You took the time to find out about our industry. I know I will be calling on you again to inspire another group of our industry’s leaders.”
(International Assn. of Assembly Managers, Inc.)
“Gary, we very rarely get scores of 4.7-4.8 (out of 5), and that is exactly what our members gave your presentation. The comments included, “One of the best presentations we’ve ever had”, “One of the better motivational speakers I have heard”, “Excellent presentation – what I really needed to energize myself.” Gary, you certainly connected with our members – it makes me look like I know what I am doing when I select speakers!”
(Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association)
“Attendees raved how you were ‘enthusiastic and refreshing’…Many people told us that you were their favorite part of the entire event, and they loved that you were able to keep them interested and focused the entire time… This is the fourth time we have engaged you, and we will continue doing so, as your material is always fresh and up-to-date.”
